But that still requires that the program you want is in the manager...
If I just goto a website and download a "package" I still have to worry
about rpm vs deb ect...
the scripts can and should be built to do the dependancy checks and complain
if something is missing...
I guess I just hate that *nix is so disjointed for the end user...
I know different distributions are built for specific reasons... but the
package manager concept seems to fragment more then help... then there are
special projects and packages to translate other package types... its just a
mess...
I run Mac as my primary OS... but I build admin and support servers running
mostly Ubuntu...
Maybe Im just tweeked by there being different package managers used my
different distributions in a community that talks about wanting more
acceptance from the casual user...
Maybe this is mostly my Rant about getting some unity in the *nix world...
mostly Linux... use the package managers to support the core apps in the
distro... like WUS or AUS does and use rolled up installers for other
apps...
